Mental Health Care Plays Key Role in Obama's Gun Efforts

Included in a batch of proposals to combat gun violence signed recently by President Barack Obama is funding to train teachers for basic mental health triage and a referral system for children requiring mental and behavioral services, according to a report by NPR.

About $155 million would be allotted in the president's initiatives to treat the mental health of children and young adults.

While there is bipartisan potential for parts of the president's gun control agenda, including among the gun-friendly National Rifle Association, some items are unsettling to moderate politicians in his own party, such as requiring a background check to be performed before any gun sale is finalized.
