Patients are still looking for Dr. Right

Seventy percent of Americans are not completely satisfied with their current physician, according to a survey from Vitals, an online resource for patient decision-making.

More than half of the 800 survey respondents rated their relationship with their physician as "good enough for the moment," while about 15 percent reported a "cold and emotionless" relationship with their physician or that they just weren't "into him/her."

Why do the majority of patients feel they haven't found Dr. Right? The report revealed the following key findings.

  • Fifty-seven percent of respondents reported dissatisfaction with the office staff's lack of professionalism.
  • Almost half — 47 percent — reported difficulty scheduling an appointment time.
  • Forty-five percent reported long wait times to see the physician.
  • Forty-one percent were dissatisfied with the condition of the physician's office.
  • Thirty-seven percent felt their physician lacked technical savvy.

"The good news is that consumers have more places to turn when it comes to receiving care" Mitch Rothschild, CEO of Vitals, said in a statement. "But just like you wouldn't give a new driver a car without learning how to operate it, consumers also need more help figuring out how to get value — and ultimately satisfaction — from their health care."
