8 latest CEO moves in hospitals, health systems

The following president and CEO moves were reported within the past two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System CEO Nancy Schlichting announced she will retire from her role in Dec. 2016. Oakland, Calif.-based Alameda Health System CEO Wright L. Lassiter will join Henry Ford as president, effective Dec. 15.

2. Burlington, Vt.-based Fletcher Allen Health Care named Eileen Whalen, RN, as president and COO, effective early next year. In the newly combined role, Ms. Whalen will report to John Brumsted, MD, CEO of Fletcher Allen Health Care and president and CEO of Fletcher Allen Partners, a four-hospital network serving Vermont and northern New York.

3. David Abelson, MD, president of Park Nicollet Health Services in Saint Louis Park, Minn., will retire at the end of the year. Dr. Abelson, who is also senior executive vice president of Bloomington, Minn.-based HealthPartners, led Park Nicollet through the 2012 merger with HealthPartners.

4. John O'Neil, president and CEO of St. Vincent's Health System in Birmingham, Ala., stepped down from his role Sept. 22. Mr. O'Neil served as president and CEO for five years. St. Vincent's appointed Neeysa Biddle, former executive vice president and COO, as interim CEO while the system conducts a national search.

5. Marilyn Margolis, MN, RN, the vice president of operations and CNO of Emory Johns Creek (Ga.) Hospital, was named the hospital's interim CEO. Ms. Margolis is filling in for former CEO Craig McCoy, who was appointed CEO of Emory Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta Sept. 1.

6. University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center named Mark B. Taubman, MD, senior vice president for health sciences and CEO, effective Jan. 1, 2015. Dr. Taubman currently serves as the dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry at URMC. He will continue to serve as dean after he assumes his new post in January.

7. Nyack (N.Y.) Hospital CEO David Freed resigned. He held the role since 2001. Vice President of Support Services and CIO John Volanto will replace Mr. Freed as interim CEO while the hospital's board searches for a permanent CEO

8. David Clark is the new president of Methodist Dallas Medical Center. Mr. Clark's new role went into effect Sept. 2.
