Cerner, Epic, McKesson among top-grossing IT companies; MDs opt for paper over Cerner EHR during go-live in Canada; McKesson may sell IT unit — 7 health IT key notes

Here are seven recent news updates on key health IT companies.

1. Vancouver Island Health Authority in British Columbia, Canada, is in the midst of rolling out Cerner's EHR across its system, but physicians are petitioning to suspend the go-live, citing concerns regarding patient safety.

2. Apple has recruited Rajiv Kumar, MD, a Stanford pediatric endocrinologist, to join Apple's health team. Dr. Kumar previously created a diabetes monitoring system using Apple's HealthKit.

3. Canton, Ill.-based Graham Health System has been a MEDITECH customer for 25 years, and the health system is now updating to MEDITECH's 6.1 EHR platform.

4. Healthcare Informatics has released its full annual list of the 100 top health IT companies based on IT revenues from the most recent fiscal year, and Cerner, McKesson, Epic and GE Healthcare all ranked among the top 10.

5. For the third year in a row, both Allscripts and athenahealth have been ranked as the top vendor in user satisfaction among ambulatory providers in Black Book's latest poll.
