80% of consumers trust wearables in healthcare, though use remains novel

Despite the hype surrounding the recent and upcoming releases of wearables from many major technology and computing companies, for now, wearables are simply novelty items, according to a report from PwC.

The report surveyed wearable users and found that one-third of those who purchased a wearable at least one year ago said they use their device either not at all or infrequently. More than 80 percent were concerned their device made them more vulnerable to security breaches or invasion of privacy.

However, more than 80 percent of survey respondents said they thought the technology could make healthcare more convenient. Some even expressed interest over using employer-sponsored wearables for the chance to have lower health insurance premiums. Indeed, consumers said they were most willing to try a wearable recommended than their primary care doctor.
