Esse Health, Anthem BCBS in Missouri Start Accountable Care Relationship

Esse Health, a St. Louis-based independent physician group, and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Missouri have partnered for an accountable care model to improve outcomes and lower healthcare costs.

Under the agreement, Anthem will support care coordination among its physician offices. Esse Health providers can share in savings achieved by improved care coordination, like less duplicated services and more timely care, according to the news release.

"Esse Health physicians have long supported the concept of the patient-centered medical home. We are pleased to be working with Anthem toward achieving the same goal — promoting high quality, cost-effective care for those we serve," Mike Castellano, Esse Health's CEO, said in the release.
