Christus St. Vincent Regional preps for possible nurse, technician strike

About 400 nurses and technicians at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, N.M., could strike if a contract isn't ratified by July 31, according to a report by The New Mexican.

Members of District 1999 New Mexico of the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees rejected the hospital's last contract offer, objecting to staffing standards, according to the report. Pay raises are also at issue, as the union would like a guaranteed annual 2 percent raise. The hospital offered a 1 percent guaranteed annual raise with other raises based on the hospital achieving certain goals.

St. Vincent Regional has taken out ads seeking replacement nurses in case a strike does occur. Some of the recent ads offer as much as $6,300 a week to replacement nurses, according to The New Mexican.

Negotiations between the two groups are set to resume Thursday.
