BUILD Health Challenge awards 18 inaugural population health grants

The BUILD Health Challenge announced that it has awarded 18 grants to groundbreaking community-driven initiatives involving hospitals and health systems that aim to improve health in low-income areas.

The awardees were recognized based on how bold, upstream, integrated, local and data-driven their approaches were at addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health. The BUILD Health Challenge encourages community partnerships among local nonprofit organizations, hospitals and health systems, and health departments to improve the health and well-being of their residents.

Among the awards are seven implementation awards worth $250,000 over two years to strengthen existing collaborations and 11 planning awards worth $75,000 to kick-start still-nascent projects. Health systems and organizations have also committed a 1:1 match with financial and in-kind support for each implementation award to advance the partnership's goals.

The BUILD Health Challenge was founded by The Advisory Board Company, the de Beaumont Foundation, the Colorado Health Foundation, The Kresge Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
