As of July 1, there are 1,686 retail clinics throughout the United States, up from 1,446 clinics this time last year, according to data from Merchant Medicine.
There are five dominant players in the retail clinic space, each with 30 or more clinics. They are as follows:
• MinuteClinic (part of Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS) — 844 clinics
• Walgreens Healthcare Clinic (Springfield, Ill.) — 402 clinics
• The Little Clinic (purchased by Cincinnati-based The Kroger Co. in 2010) — 122 clinics
• Target Clinic (Minneapolis) — 70 clinics
• RediClinic (Note: RediClinic was acquired by Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite Aid in April) — 30 clinics
