Archbold Memorial partners with Winship Cancer Institute: 5 things to know

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in Atlanta and the Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Ga., are partnering for cancer care.

Here are five things to know about the partnership.

1. Under the partnership, Archbold's Singletary Oncology Center will become the first hospital to join Emory's Winship Cancer Network. Winship is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Georgia.

2. Eligible Archbold oncology patients will have access to more than 250 existing therapeutic clinical trials and research.

3. The partnership will compliment the existing clinical research program at the Singletary Oncology Center — a program that is currently accepting patients for nine of 17 existing clinical trials and registries.

4. Under the partnership, Archbold physicians, nurses and clinical research staff can also leverage opportunities for specialized training at Winship.

5. Overall, the partnership will enhance access to cancer research and treatment to patients in Southwest Georgia, officials with both parties said this week.
