6 Oregon health organizations contribute $21.5M to homeless housing projects

Five Portland, Ore.-based hospitals and one nonprofit collectively gave $21.5 million to build housing for the city's homeless, Portland Business Journal reports.

The six healthcare organizations include Oregon Health & Science University, Providence Health & Services, Kaiser Permanente Northwest, Adventist Health, Legacy Health and nonprofit CareOregon. Adventist pledged $1.5 million, and the remaining organizations donated $4 million each.

The three housing projects are slated to have 382 units to accommodate 2,000 individuals. One complex will house a health clinic offering addiction and mental health services, in addition to apartments, according to the report.

The project is led by Central City Concern, a Portland-based nonprofit offering housing and health services, which will own and oversee the three housing complexes.

Construction is set to start in 2017 and reach completion in 2018.
