1. Remembering Chuck Lauer
Chuck Lauer, 86, was a legend in the healthcare arena. He passed away Sunday after a battle with leukemia. It is an understatement to say he will be greatly missed.

2. Cleveland Clinic President and CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove announces plans to step down in 2017
Toby Cosgrove, MD, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic, revealed plans to transition out of his executive roles later this year. 

3. OIG: Mount Sinai Hospital overbilled Medicare by $41.9M
Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City failed to comply with Medicare billing requirements for 110 of 261 inpatient and outpatient claims reviewed by HHS' Office of Inspector General for the audit period of Jan. 1, 2012, through Dec. 31, 2013.

5. HCA to change its name — again
The board of directors of Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Holdings voted last week to rework the company's name, CEO Milton Johnson said during an earnings call May 2.

6. CHS records $199M net loss, says divestiture spree is over
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems posted a net loss of $199 million in the first quarter after recording net income of $11 million during the same period in 2015. 

7. Molina ousts CEO and CFO, citing finances
Long Beach, Calif.-based Molina Healthcare's board of directors fired longtime CEO J. Mario Molina, MD, and his brother John Molina, the company's CFO. 

8. LifePoint eyes new acquisitions as profit rises
Brentwood, Tenn.-based LifePoint Health is looking to acquire hospitals after a "natural pause" of more than a year since buying a new facility, said LifePoint Chairman and CEO Bill Carpenter during a first quarter earnings call with investors April 28.

9. CHS divests 11 hospitals, adds 3 more to sale pipeline
Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems completed its sale of eight hospitals to Boston-based Steward Health Care and divested two hospitals to Clinton, Tenn.-based Curae Health May 1.

10. Tenet sees net loss narrow to $53M, inks deal to sell 3 hospitals to HCA
Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare said it ended the first quarter with a net loss. However, the company said it has entered into several agreements to improve its financial picture in the long term.
