St. Joseph Hospital Lays Off 152

St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, Calif., has laid off 152 employees and is leaving 18 positions vacant as part of a cost-cutting initiative, according to an Orange County Register report.

The hospital has experienced low patient volumes and reimbursement cuts, and is cutting 5 percent of its budget for the current fiscal year, according to the report.

Other cuts associated with the turnaround plan include eliminating free parking validation and reduced hours in the Mother-Baby Assessment Center, among others, according to the Orange County Register.

St. Joseph Hospital previously employed 2,200 people.
