Management Tool: Bipartisan Policy Center Report on Healthcare Workforce Planning

A new report from the Deloitte Centers for Health Solutions and Bipartisan Policy Center emphasizes the importance of developing a national approach to workforce planning in healthcare.

The report is based on 12 healthcare service delivery professions, including registered nurses, physicians and physician assistants. It includes employment projections for each, comparing the number of people employed in these professions in 2010 to the projected number employed in these professions in 2020. The report also includes the age and gender profiles of selected professions.

"This report will begin to give federal, state and local leaders the tools they need to assess the workforce supply in a meaningful and consistent way," the report reads. "Examining 12 healthcare service delivery professions, this study offers an initial starting point — not a definitive landscape from which to build an inter-professional 'whole workforce' perspective."
