GOP group unveils $2M TV ad defending AHCA ahead of CBO score

A Republican group allied with House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Tuesday launched a $2 million TV ad campaign defending the House's proposed legislation to replace the ACA, according to The Hill.

The ad hit the screen ahead of the Congressional Budget Office's highly anticipated score of the bill, dubbed the American Health Care Act.

The American Action Network's ad was slated to run in 21 House districts, as well as nationally on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." Of the 21 districts, most of the Republican representatives face uncertainty ahead in the upcoming 2018 midterm elections.

The commercial features a California woman who says her family "lost our insurance and doctor because of the Affordable Care Act," according to the report.

"But now, we have hope," she continues. "The American Health Care Act will fix our broken healthcare system."

After the passage of the latest iteration of the AHCA in early May, which was approved by a narrow 217-213 margin, Republicans downplayed the need to wait for the CBO score. Now they are waiting for the score — expected to come on Wednesday — to officially send the bill to the Senate. Among other potential effects of the bill on the U.S. healthcare system, the CBO will assess the AHCA for adherence to the rules of the Senate reconciliation process, which enables Republicans to bypass a Democratic filibuster.
