The Florida Commission on Review of Taxpayer Funded Hospitals, which was created by Gov. Rick Scott earlier this year to examine how hospital districts use taxpayer-supported funds, is currently considering a measure that would require taxpayers to reapprove hospital districts every eight years, according to a Herald-Tribune report.
Hospitals operated by districts could face financing troubles if the measure becomes law. Sarasota (Fla.) Memorial Hospital CFO William Woeltjen said the measure would likely hurt the hospital's bond rating and its ability to issue bonds.
The Commission is considering other measures and is expected to report its recommendations to Gov. Scott and the legislature sometime next year.
