Thomas Gallagher, MD, will become the 40th president of the Society of General Internal Medicine on Saturday, according to a news release.
Here are three things to know.
1. As president, Dr. Gallagher will serve a single-year term, the release states. However, on the council, he will serve as an officer for a three years.
2. He is a general internist and a professor in the department of medicine and the department of bioethics and humanities at the University of Washington in Seattle.
3. Dr. Gallagher earned his medical degree from Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass.
