49 jobs affected with the end of Morehead Memorial Hospital's contract with Aramark

Forty-nine jobs will be affected with the end of Philadelphia-based Aramark's contract with Morehead Memorial Hospital, a nonprofit community hospital in Eden, N.C., according to a Triad Business Journal report.

The contract between Morehead and Aramark, which provides environmental, food and maintenance services for the hospital, ends March 13.

Aramark employees who will have their jobs eliminated include laundry workers, food service workers, mechanics, custodial staff and managers, according to the report.

But Morehead President and CEO Howard Ainsley told the Triad Business Journal that the workers, with the exception of three managers, will have the opportunity to fill positions with the hospital's new partners — Lancaster, Ohio-based Morrison Health Care and Wayne, Pa.-based Crothall Healthcare — both of which are preferred partners of Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health.

Morehead and Novant Health entered into a management agreement last year in an effort to improve efficiency and reduce costs, according to the report.

Also in 2014, Morehead announced layoffs on two separate occasions.

In May 2014, Morehead, which has seen continued declines in hospital admissions, eliminated 22 positions and reduced hours for 25 workers, according to the report.

Last month, Morehead eliminated 22 positions and cut hours for 160 of its employees, according to a Triad Business Journal report.
