Partners HealthCare, Insurers Negotiate Global Payments

Boston-based Partners HealthCare is currently negotiating contracts with three major area insurers and plans to accept what could amount to smaller reimbursements rates resulting from global payments, according to a Boston Globe report.

The concessions follow a promise by the health system in April to bring down costs in order to reduce insurance premiums for small businesses.

Partners is currently negotiating with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan for new contracts. Current contracts aren't set to expire until next year, and some see the reopening of the contracts as a sign of the provider's willingness to help reduce premium rates, according to the report.
