Nursing Protest Looms for Massachusetts Health System

Nurses with Boston-based Northeast Health System will picket in response to the system's impending sale amidst contract talks, according to a Gloucester Times report.

The bargaining nurses said salary and benefits are some of the main issues, but they are looking for Northeast's inclusion of "successor language" into the contract. Four organizations are in the running to acquire Northeast, and nurses do not want a merger or sale to void terms of settlements, the report said.

Northeast CEO Ken Hanover said the sale could be completed by the end of June.

Picketing is scheduled for Wednesday, with roughly 700 nurses within the bargaining unit.
