Illinois Hospitals to Receive One-Time Payment for Medicaid Services

Hospitals in Illinois will receive one-time payments totaling $120 million from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family as part of an effort to accelerate payments to hospitals that provide Medicaid services so that the state is eligible for higher federal matching funds, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Rural hospitals and those with large Medicaid populations will receive the largest payments, which range from just over $3,000 to more than $3 million.

The federal government approved the accelerated payments. Accelerating the payments will make hospitals in the state eligible for higher federal matching funds for Medicaid, which were made available by last year's Stimulus Act.
