Bipartisan Legislation Would Extend Drug Discounts to Inpatient Hospital Prescriptions

Lawmakers have recently introduced bipartisan legislation that would extend the 340B drug discount program to hospitals, according to a government publication.

Reps. Jo Ann Emerson (R-Mo.), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) and Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) jointly penned The 340B Improvement Act.

The drug discount program currently covers safety net hospitals and other providers in underserved populations by providing discounted prescription drug prices for Medicaid beneficiaries on an outpatient basis only. The proposed 340B Improvement Act would extend those drug discounts to inpatient prescriptions for the same providers in underserved areas.
