The 16 Services Hospitals Most Often Host in the Cloud

More than 80 percent of the 150 provider participants in the 2014 HIMSS Analytics Cloud Survey reported the use of at least one cloud-based service at their organization.

The services most commonly hosted in the cloud include:

Clinical applications and data: 43.6 percent
Health information exchange: 38.7
Backups and disaster recovery: 35.1 percent
Human resources data and applications: 34.9 percent
Financial data and applications: 32.9 percent
Operational data and applications: 27.7 percent
Archived data: 26.8 percent
Back office data and applications: 22.1 percent
Managed services: 22.1 percent
Communications services: 20.3 percent
Server virtualization: 14.9 percent
Desktop virtualization: 8.1 percent
Virtual networks: 6.1 percent
Accountable care organization support: 6 percent
Identity management: 2 percent
Timely provisioning or deprovisioning accounts: 2 percent
