Survey: 5 tasks medical practices find most burdensome

Adhering to the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System represented the No. 1 most burdensome task in which medical practices regularly engage, according to a Medical Group Management Association survey.

For the "2017 Regulatory Burden Survey," MGMA asked 750 group practices across the U.S. about challenges to complying with federal government regulations and mandates.

Here are the five tasks respondents most frequently ranked "very burdensome" or "extremely burdensome."

1. Merit-Based Incentive Payment System: 82 percent

2. Lack of electronic attachments for claims and prior authorization: 74 percent

3. Audits and appeals: 69 percent

4. Lack of EHR interoperability: 68 percent

5. Payer use of virtual credit cards: 59 percent
