Reading Health System cuts 33 IT positions

Reading (Pa.) Health System has eliminated 33 positions from its IT department, affecting 25 employees.

According to a statement provided to Becker's Hospital Review, the health system is restructuring its IT division, which requires fewer people to maintain legacy information systems that are no longer used.

"Over the past three years, the IT division added positions to support the comprehensive build and implementation of Reading Health System's electronic health record initiative, Reading HealthConnect. The initial build and implementation are now complete, with ongoing support and maintenance requiring fewer positions in the IT division," according to the statement.

The employees were laid off Wednesday, according to a Reading Eagle report.

Calls to Reading Health System for a comment were not immediately returned.
