Ochsner to add 6 stories to main hospital building: 3 things to know

New Orleans-based Ochsner Health System has announced it will spend $250 million to expand its facilities, including adding six floors to its flagship eight-story hospital, according to The Times-Picayune.

Here are three things to know about the project.

1. The new floors will increase the hospital's capacity from nearly 500 patients to roughly 700 once both phases of the project are complete in early 2018.

2. Other projects in Ochsner's capital campaign include the expansion of the cancer center at its main campus and the transformation of its hospital in Elmwood, La., into a specialty surgery center for outpatient and orthopedic procedures

3. Ochsner CEO Warner Thomas told The Times-Picayune that the system's emergence as a regional healthcare center and its expanding network prompted the expansions.
