Gallup: January employee engagement steady at 32.5%

U.S. employee engagement was at 32.5 percent in January, according to Gallup.

In January, 51.6 percent of employees were "not engaged," while 15.7 percent were "actively disengaged," according to the report.

Gallup defines engaged workers as those who are "involved in, enthusiastic about and committed to their work," and who give high ratings to certain elements of the workplace, including "having an opportunity to do what they do best each day," according to the report.

Engagement remains relatively steady, as it has not faltered below 32 percent since last August. Over the past five years, engagement reached its highest peak in early 2012 at 33.6 percent.

The results are based on telephone interviews with a sampling of 7,215 U.S. adults aged 18 or older working either part-time or full-time for an employer.
