Community Medical Center in New Jersey Lays Off 68

Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J., has eliminated 85 positions, leading to 68 layoffs, according to an Asbury Park Press report.

Management, administrative and clinical positions were all affected by the cuts, according to the report. CMC offered affected employees a severance package and is working with them to apply for other open positions at the facility and its parent system, West Orange, N.J.-based Barnabas Health.

The hospital's president and CEO, Stephanie Bloom, attributed the layoffs to reduced Medicare reimbursement and the sequester, according to the report.
