South Bend, Ind.-based Beacon Health System has unveiled its telehealth program, according to South Bend Tribune.
Patients may access licensed Indiana and Michigan physicians for live video consultations, via smartphone, laptop, tablet or desktop webcam. The program focuses on urgent care patients with minor symptoms, such as those with the flu, eye infections, urinary tract infections and lower back pain.
Remote physicians will be able to prescribe medication and determine whether in-person follow-up is necessary. A telehealth visit through Beacon Health System will cost $49 without insurance, which is less expensive than an in-person visit at an urgent care center, according to South Bend Tribune.
In the future, the health system may expand its telehealth program to offer nutritional or behavioral health services.
