The key to efficient inventory management: Automation

Hospitals and health systems consistently name the supply chain as an area in which spending and waste must be reduced.

In fact, according to a report in Materials Management in Health Care, the supply chain can account for nearly 40 percent of a hospital's operating budget, making it the second highest expense after labor. Additionally, although supply chain funds must be spent on inventory, a  PNC Healthcare study found hospitals annually face more than $5 billion in waste related to high-cost medical devices.

The solution to these problems lies in the switch to an automated inventory management system. Automation allows hospitals to decrease their spending and waste, and clinicians to fully focus on patients rather than the supply chain. Through automation, hospitals and health systems can utilize better point-of-use stations and have access to analytics that help uncover trends in the inventory management process.

How do you convince your organization and potential stakeholders to make the switch to an automated inventory management system?

Join Cindy Measurall, Director of Supply Chain Strategy for Cardinal Health, for a webinar January 26.

Attendees will learn how to achieve support from stakeholders, articulate the benefits of an automated system, estimate the savings opportunities an automated system can provide and more.
