9 Statistics on Supply Chain Salaries, Employment

From 2012 to 2013, the average salary for healthcare supply chain professionals rose by approximately 5 percent, from $83,391 to $88,342, according to Healthcare Purchasing News' 2013 salary survey.

Here are nine more statistics on supply chain salaries and employment.

1. Respondents who reported a salary increase in 2013 had an average of a 3.3 percent raise.

2. The range of annual salaries varied from $47,000 (other) to $147,516 (corporate/executive/senior vice president, etc.), depending on position title.

3. The majority of respondents — 50 percent — identified as "Director of Materials Management/Materials Manager," reporting average salaries of $84,286.

4. The second-largest group of respondents was purchasing directors and managers, at 14 percent. They reported an average salary of $77,083.

5. More than 36 percent of respondents indicated working in an urban hospital, where the average salary was $96,775.

6. Thirty-three percent of respondents reported working in a rural hospital, with an average salary of $72,573.

7. Approximately half of respondents — 53 percent — reported overseeing supply chain management for just one hospital, while 23 percent said they are responsible for two or three hospitals.

8. Supply chain professionals in the southeast had the highest national average salary at $96,490.

9. The mountain region supply chain professionals had the lowest national average salary at $61,071.
