Johnston Health Outlines Expansion Plans, Partnership Search

Smithfield, N.C.-based Johnston Health is planning several expansions as part of its strategy for future growth, according to a Smithfield Herald report.

Johnston Health CEO Chuck Elliott described expansion plans during a presentation titled "The Future of Johnston Health," according to the report.

The plans include the following:

•    Add 50 inpatient beds at Johnston Medical Center-Clayton (N.C.).
•    Add eight inpatient rehabilitation beds at Johnston Medical Center-Smithfield (N.C.).
•    Build a chest pain center and a stroke center.
•    Conduct a $1.5 million expansion of the emergency department in Smithfield.

Johnston Health is also considering partnering with a larger organization to gain access to capital and other resources while retaining local control of the system. Johnston Health has narrowed its search to three systems: UNC Health Care in Raleigh, N.C., Vidant Health in Greenville, N.C., and WakeMed in Raleigh, according to the report.
