Florida Physician Allegedly Used Patient Records to Market Services

A physician from Naples, Fla., will pay a fine of $10,000 after he allegedly accessed thousands of patient records at NCH Downtown Naples Hospital to see who didn't have a primary care physician, according to a Naples Daily News report.

Guillermo Castro Narvarte, MD, allegedly reviewed the records from 2008-2009. If a patient's record indicated he/she did not have a PCP, Dr. Narvarte would allegedly contact the patient to offer his medical services.

Along with the monetary settlement, Dr. Narvarte will also complete five hours of continuing medical education and pay another $3,100 to cover state costs.

Dr. Narvarte does not have privileges at NCH, according to the report.
