BCBS of Michigan Asks Judge to Dismiss Unfair Contracting Suit

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has asked a federal judge to dismiss rival Aetna's antitrust suit against the insurer alleging unfair contracting practices, according to a report by The Detroit News.

The suit, filed in December, claims BCBS of Michigan inhibited Aetna from expanding in the state. It followed a suit by the Department of Justice and Michigan attorney general's office alleging BCBS inhibited competition by including most-favored nation clauses in contracts with providers.

Blue Cross has defended its use of the clauses to reduce premium increases, according to the report.
