Stanford Hospital & Clinics to Honor In-Network Rates as Negotiations With Anthem Blue Cross Remain Stagnant

Contract negotiations between Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Hospital and Clinics and Anthem Blue Cross of California have continued to stall, but Stanford officials said they are still seeing patients even though they are still in a non-contract situation, according to a Stanford Daily report.

The contract between Stanford and Anthem Blue Cross expired Aug. 31, but the hospital system said it will honor in-network rates so patient out-of-pocket costs will not be any higher than normal, according to the report.

Reimbursement rates are still the main negotiating point. Anthem Blue Cross officials said Stanford had been asking for a double-digit increase. According to the report, neither Stanford nor the insurer could estimate how much longer it would take to reach an agreement.
