CMS has issued its proposed rule for the 2013 home health prospective payment system, which would go into effect Jan. 1, 2013, according to an AHA News Now report.
CMS' proposed home health rule provides a net increase of 0.1 percent — $20 million — in Medicare payments for home health services. The increase is part of a 2.5 percent market basket update, offset by mandatory cuts under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and a 1.32 coding offset, part of a multi-year offset, according to the report.
Additionally, the new CMS rule proposes requirements for the hospice quality data reporting program. The proposed rule would establish requirements for unannounced, standard and extended surveys of home health agencies and provide a number of alternative sanctions that could be imposed if HHAs are out of compliance with federal requirements.
CMS will accept comments on the home health proposed rule through Sept. 4.
