CHS to Drop Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems will cut its contracts with Arkansas BlueCross BlueShield at the end of the month after both sides could not reach a new agreement, according to an Arkansas Business report.

CHS operates eight hospitals in Arkansas and said it wanted "reasonable rate increases" from ABCBS, according to the report.

ABCBS, however, said it is already "paying CHS hospitals the same rate that we pay all other Arkansas hospitals for outpatient services. And for inpatient services, we actually pay more, on average, to CHS hospitals than we pay to other Arkansas hospitals," according to the report.

It has not been determined if negotiations will be restarted, although both parties indicated they wanted to reach a deal before negotiations were called off.
