Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee Faces Eight-Figure Losses, Uncertain Future

Milwaukee-based Aurora Sinai Medical Center expects to report net losses of $20 million for 2011 and projects it will lose $30 million this year, according to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report.

Aurora Sinai parent Aurora Health Care, however, said that "any discussion about closing Aurora Sinai is pure speculation and, most important, the last thing we would want to do," according to the report.

In 2010 and 2009, Aurora Sinai lost a combined $7.8 million. Aurora Sinai officials said the large increase in losses for 2011 was attributed to lower inpatient volumes, a worsening payor mix and the lull of overall economy, according to the report.

Aurora Health Care reported net income of $100.4 million in 2010 and $223.8 million in 2009.
