10 Hospitals With the Highest Outpatient Endoscopy Charges

Outpatient endoscopies in hospitals can cost anywhere between $1,500 and more than $32,000, depending on the hospital.

Yesterday, CMS released hospital outpatient charges for the 30 most common ambulatory procedures from fiscal year 2011. The release also comes on the heels of CMS unveiling a trove of hospital inpatient billing data in an effort to increase price transparency.

Here are the 10 hospitals that recorded the highest charges for endoscopies in FY 2011. Note: Data come directly from CMS' database of hospital charges and reflects only hospitals paid under Medicare's outpatient prospective payment system. Data specifically reflects APC 0074, level IV endoscopy upper airway.

1.    Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) Medical Center: $32,106
2.    Shasta Regional Medical Center (Redding, Calif.): $32,080
3.    Memorial Hospital (Jacksonville, Fla.): $27,625
4.    Rideout Regional Medical Center (Marysville, Calif.): $26,084
5.    Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles): $24,017
6.    Brooksville (Fla.) Regional Hospital: $22,122
7.    UCSF Medical Center (San Francisco): $19,765
8.    College Station (Texas) Medical Center: $19,061
9.    Brigham and Women's Hospital (Boston): $18,735
10.    Baptist Hospital of Miami: $17,900
