Survey Shows Healthcare Executives Highly Concerned With Patient Safety, Satisfaction

Patient safety and satisfaction are on the forefront of hospital leaders' minds, according to a U.S. News and World Report survey of 1,852 hospital executives.

Survey results showed more than half of hospital executive respondents were extremely concerned or somewhat concerned at the difficulty of reducing hospital readmission rates at their facilities. Other key findings from the survey include the following:

• A large majority (80 percent) of respondents placed staffing and funding for quality of care initiatives (such as stressing use of clinical guidelines and best practices) as a high or somewhat high priority.
• Similarly, nearly three-quarters of respondents placed staffing and funding for patient safety (such as enhanced handwashing and PSI reporting) as a high or somewhat high priority.
• Eighty-eight percent of executives' compensation was tied to benchmarks and goals for quality of care and/or patient safety.
• Three-quarters of respondents are also at least somewhat prioritizing enhancement of patient satisfaction.
