Nurses Union Criticizes Recommendation to Make Vaccination Requirement of Employment

The National Nurses Union has spoken out in opposition to the National Vaccine Advisory Committee's recent healthcare worker vaccination recommendations.

NVAC's recommendations were submitted to HHS and include making influenza vaccination a condition of employment at healthcare facilities that are unable to reach the target 90 percent vaccination rate for employees.

NNU is joined by others, including the Occupational Safety and Health Agency, who argue there is insufficient evidence for the federal government to promote mandatory influenza vaccination programs that might result in employment termination. The NNU plans to make a statement in front of NVAC during a public forum on Tuesday in Washington, D.C.
