New York woman's remains test negative for Ebola

The remains of a woman who died this week in New York City tested negative for Ebola, according to a Reuters report.

Health officials in New York City said they would test her remains for the virus because she had returned from West Africa 18 days prior, still within the 21-day incubation period for the virus, according to The New York Times.

The woman died of an apparent heart attack.

She did not previously show symptoms of Ebola, but the department said they would still conduct a test out of "an abundance of caution," according to the Reuters report.
