New HHS advisory committee to focus on pediatric health needs in disasters

A new federal advisory committee has been established that will focus on health needs of children in disasters, according to an HHS report.

The National Advisory Committee on Children and Disasters will provide advice and consultation to the HHS Secretary on policies to meet the needs of children before, during and after a disaster, from natural disasters to bioterrorism incidents. The committee will include 15 members and was established under the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Reauthorization Act of 2013.
