Infographic highlights growth of touchscreens in healthcare and risk of spreading infection

From tablets in hallway kiosks to doctors’ own smartphones, touchscreen surfaces abound in healthcare settings. PDI, a provider of infection prevention products and solutions, recently released an infographic that showcases how screens used in the healthcare setting are often teaming with germs that can threaten patient safety.

In fact, phones alone - which the average American touches 46 times per day - are portable reservoirs for the transmission of pathogens, and yet 17 percent of physicians don’t clean their devices. Deployed by doctors and nurses in a multitude of patient-facing scenarios – everything from x-ray screens to ultrasound touchscreens to bedside portals – more screens pose more risk of spreading infection.

The infographic highlights an ever-increasing problem in healthcare settings as more and more screens enter healthcare and physicians pockets. The infographic is available for download here.
