County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Medicare Status Restored

Federal regulators have restored Torrance, Calif.-based County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center's Medicare status after a recent survey demonstrated several deficiencies at the hospital, according to a Press Telegram report.

Late last year, a federal report cited the hospital for poor compliance to hand hygiene policy, incorrectly maintaining humidity levels in ORs and dusty or cluttered holes in the ceilings, all of which can lead to the spread of infection. The hospital has since submitted a corrective action plan, which includes more robust staff education on hand hygiene and weekly audits for infection control.

A follow-up inspection of the hospital was conducted in January, after which federal regulators found the hospital was back in compliance with Medicare standards.
