Copper Basin Medical Center ends inpatient services, urges people to donate on GoFundMe page

Copperhill, Tenn.-based Copper Basin Medical Center temporarily closed its inpatient services due a lack of funding, according to WRCB-3 News.

Officials held an emergency board meeting Tuesday to address concerns about the change in operations. Tim Henry, CFO of CBMC, said the facility "just doesn't have the money" to continue offering inpatient services due to mismanaged funds, according to the report.

Fifteen nurses were also reportedly cut due to financial issues. Some are still waiting to receive payment for their services, according to the report. Mr. Henry said it "was a difficult decision" to withhold payment, but the facility just "did not have enough cash in the payroll" to pay all 15 individuals for their services.

"We took the highest paid wages, they didn't get paid. We paid the lowest wage people first with the amount of cash we had," Mr. Henry said.

One of the nurses who lost her job told WRCB-3 News she had not been paid for the last four weeks of work, according to the report.

Operating managers reportedly said they hope to resolve the medical center's financial issues by the end of this fiscal year. If successful, officials said they will aim to resume inpatient services by Oct. 1, according to the report.

Officials said the facility's other services will still be available to patients.

Mr. Henry created a GoFundMe page inviting individuals to donate funds to save the ailing facility. So far, the medical center has raised $375 toward its $10,000 goal.
