Hey, healthcare! I’m a millennial mom — and here’s why that should matter to you

For better or worse, we live in a society that embraces labels. While labels can be beneficial if they offer insight and greater understanding into the complex world we live in, they’re not when they warp our perceptions of people. Based on these realities, let’s get better acquainted.

One of my labels? I’m a millennial, part of the ME generation. By definition, millennials are slackers with an entitled mindset and are easily sidetracked by technology – AKA we’re unproductive. The truth? I’m none of the above.

Let’s dig a little deeper. I’m a mom. In fact, I’m a full-time working millennial mom – and proud of it.

As our society continues to perpetuate a wide range of negative stereotypes associated with the millennial generation, the vast majority of us defy them. However, one thing we can agree on is millennials are front and center, leaving quite an impression and spearheading change – especially when it comes to healthcare.

According to Pew Research Center, millennials (those born between 1981 and 1997) are now the largest living generation in the United States with a count of 75.4 million compared to 74.9 million baby boomers. Today, nearly 30% of millennials have transitioned into the role of parenthood, becoming responsible for not only their own health but also their children’s – the future generation. Another fun fact: in 2014/2015, millennial moms accounted for almost 90 percent of the 1.5 million new mothers, up 50 percent from a decade ago. This trend is only going up. Click here to continue>>
