A new recovery area in Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center's cardiology department is the hospital's most recent strategy to improve cardiac patient flow, according to a Fort Gordon Signal news report.
The recovery area construction project began in 2005 when the cardiology department began brainstorming ways to reduce cardiac patient's wait time. Previously, cardiac patients were required to go to different floors of the hospital to be seen by their cardiologists. Some cardiac patients even had to arrive at 5:30 a.m. for cardiac procedures scheduled to take place at 10 a.m., according to the news report.
With the new recovery area, cardiac patients can now arrive at 9:30 a.m. just in time for their surgery. The expansion not only improves patient throughput to the hospital's operating rooms but also improves patient safety by preventing the need for patients to move around too much, according to the report.
