Survey: 69% of Americans Want Obama to Lower Healthcare Costs

Sixty-nine percent of Americans want President Barack Obama to prioritize lowering healthcare costs during his second term, according to a post-election survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers' Health Research Institute.

When asked to prioritize where federal savings in healthcare should come from, half of the respondents believed that payments to physicians and hospitals should be reduced.

When asked, "Which of the following policy recommendations do you believe should be prioritized?" participants responded as follows (two selections were required):

• Reduce payments to doctors and hospitals: 50 percent
• Reduce investments in health information technology: 42 percent
• Reduce spending on public health and prevention: 31 percent
• Raise the Medicare eligibility age for seniors: 29 percent
• Reduce Medicaid and other subsidized care for low-income Americans: 27 percent
• Reduce investments in research and development for new medicines/therapies: 21 percent

The online survey had 1,202 respondents.
