Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston to Begin Expansion

Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston will begin construction on a new wing in September, according to a Houston Business Journal report.

The 22,000-square-foot expansion will provide additional space for the dermatology and urology clinics, each of which will be approximately 8,000 square feet. The urology clinic will include six exam rooms and four procedure and treatment rooms. The dermatology clinic will have eight exam rooms, four procedure rooms, two laser rooms and one light-therapy room.

The clinics will relocate to the new wing and will be replaced by the hospital's surgical operating suite and primary care unit.

The wing will also provide space for the prosthetics department to expand.

The hospital expects to complete the project in September 2013.
